OPERATION BIJOUX: ONE MAN ARRESTED, FOUR PREMISES SEARCHED AND £1,600 IN FAKE NOTES SEIZED

POLICE are jubilant after a haul of counterfeit notes and some stolen items were recovered during a pro-active search operation across Derry and Strabane.

Local policing commander Gordon McCalmont said the raids – codenamed Operation Bijoux – were part of a crackdown on criminality across the district.

The search operation involved teams from the Tactical Support Group, local District Support Team and Local Policing Teams.

“Searches were conducted in relation to fraud at four premises which turned up over £1,600 in counterfeit currency.

“We also managed to track down some items we believe to have been stolen.

“One person was arrested for questioning.

“Fraud like this doesn’t just affect your local spar, if notes aren’t picked up on, you could easily end up with one in your possession and be out of pocket.

“If you have any information on stuff like that, let us know by calling 101, or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
