Tragic news as Ryan McBride die suddenly at his home in Derry

DERRY is in mourning tonight following the tragic death of the much loved and inspirational Derry City captain, Ryan McBride.

The 27-year-old was found dead in his bedroom this evening.

McBride played for Derry City yesterday in their 4-0 win over Drogheda United on Saturday night,

He also scored one of the goals in a 3-1 win over League champions Dundalk.

The 27-year-old McBride lived at Bluebellhill Gardens, just next to Brandywell Stadium.

Crowds of Derry City fans have gathered outside his home tonight in total shock.

It is understood Ryan suffered a knock during Saturday’s win over Drogheda.

A post mortem is now expected to be carried out to determine the exact cause of his tragic death.

In a statement, the PFA Ireland said: “We are shocked to hear this evening the passing of our member and Derry City Captain Ryan McBride.

“Our thoughts and prayer are with his family.”

West Brom midfielder and former Derry City player James McClean is to be given special dispensation to attend Ryan’s funeral later this week in Derry.

His wife Erin posted a tweet saying: “No words. Devastating.”

Derry City’s replay game at Maginn Park against Limerick this Tuesday is now expected to be postponed as a mark of respect to Ryan and his family.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Ryan’s sorrowful family at this time.
