THE heartbroken family of Jack Glenn, missing for almost six weeks now, have offered support to the family of a second young Derry man also feared to have entered the River Foyle.

Dean Millar, from the Creggan area, was last seen with friends on Sunday.

But the alarm was raised when the 18-year-old didn’t return home as he had told them he was doing.

A police spokesman said: “Dean was last seen in the Brandywell area of the city late on Saturday night.

“He was wearing a grey tracksuit with black coat and is described as being around 5ft 8in tall, small/medium build with brown hair and green eyes.”

His relatives appealed through social media for help to find him. Among the first to offer support was Hester Glenn, mother of Jack (23), who posted:

“The Glenn and Kee family would like to pass on their sympathy to the family of young Dean Millar and offer any support and help that we can at this terrible time.”

Foyle Search and Rescue are leading the searches for both men, and members of the public are helping Mr Millar’s family comb the river bank, focusing on the Craigavon and Peace bridges.

A family spokesman thanked the public, and urged searchers to walk in pairs, wear hi-vis vests and stay off the railway line.

SDLP Foyle MLA Mark Durkan reiterated his call for mental health to be made a priority.

He said: “I was saddened to hear that another family from this city fears for the safety of a young man they love and have asked the people of Derry for help which they will undoubtedly get. We need a government and a health minister equally willing to help, to prioritise mental health and drive forward suicide prevention measures.

“Too many lives have been lost. Too many families have been devastated. If anyone needs help, there are great groups here – but they need to be better resourced. We need a fully funded crisis intervention centre.”

Writing on her facebook page last night, mum Hester Glenn:

“Another day long searches still haven’t got my luvly son please god we want jack back soon low tide 2 30am totally excused but will never give up 💔💔💔💔💔💔🙏🙏xxx”

Searches continue today for missing Creggan lad Dean Millar
