Detectives at Strand Road investigating shooting in Derry’s Cornshell Fields area around midnight

DETECTIVES are investigating after a number of shots were fired at a house in Derry last night.

The attack happened around midnight in the Cornshell Fields area.

Local Sinn Fein councillor Elisha McCallion said a family was at home at the time when a gunman opened fire.

However, it is believed that no one was injured in the cowardly attack under cover of darkness.

Cllr McCallion, who is is standing in Foyle in this Thursday’s Assembly’s elections, condemned the attack.

The former Mayor of Derry and Strabane said: “There can be no place for the use of guns on our streets.

“I would call on anyone with information on this incident to bring it forward to the PSNI.”

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to ring detectives in the Reactive and Organised Crime Branch at Strand Road on the 101 non-emergency number.
