Sinn Fein councillor Elisha McCallion

SINN Féin’s Elisha McCallion has welcomed the decision by the Education Authority to reinstate the funding for youth workers.

She said: “The process of issuing notices of intent to youth workers who are involved in essential programmes in the most socially deprived communities was wrong.

“It is essential that these jobs are be mainstreamed to ensure continuity of service and programmes.

“I would like to congratulate those who campaigned to have the funding secured.

“Without their participation this reversal would not have occurred,” she added.
