NESBITT MUST CLARIFY IF UUP REMAINS OPPOSED TO MARRIAGE EQUALITY – MCCALLION

SINN Féin’s Elisha McCallion has called on UUP leader Mike Nesbitt to tell the public whether his party still opposes marriage equality.

The Foyle Assembly candidate said: “As leader of the UUP Mike Nesbitt has rejected the rights of the Irish language speaking community to legal protections under an Irish language act.

“I am calling on him to clarify if his party remains opposed to marriage equality.

“The north is now the only part of these islands which does not have marriage equality.

“This is shameful and unacceptable.

“There is a growing demand to see marriage equality extended across the island.

“As a party we will campaign for equal marriage rights for all.

“Sinn Fein stands for equality and respect for all citizens regardless of creed, gender, race or sexuality,” added the former Mayor of Derry and Strabane District Council.
