Enda Lynn scored opened the scoring for Derry this afternoon against Clare

AFTER the fog lifted, Celtic Park was bathed in glorious sunshine for Derry’s opening game in the Allianz League 2 match.

And from the throw in (2 pm) Derry attacked the changing room end from the off and  it wasn’t long before captain Enda Lynn opened the scoring with a point from play.

Minutes later Lynn was on the score sheet again he combined with Glenlough team mate Loughlin with another point.

On 7 minutes, Ciaran Russell opened Clare’s account with a point from play.

Four minutes later and Clare were level with a point from Eoin Cleary.

Clare showed they hadn’t come just to make up the numbers and should have scored a goal only for Derry to go up the pitch and James Kielt’s free drops short of the upright.

And on 15 minutes there was a great four man move by Derry with Kielt making sure of his point this time and the Oak Leafers go back into the lead.

The visitors had another chance to net a goal but a great block from Ronan Murphy denied them. The 45 also went wide.

With the 20 minute mark almost approaching, Carlus McWilliams scored a point and Derry’s lead increased to two points.

But Clare were not down and out and successive points from Liam Markham and Sean Collins levelled the game on 22 minutes.

It appeared that Clare with their third chance on goal were going to score this time but Jamie Malone flashed wide. Derry were living on their luck.

Minutes later Eoin Cleary kicked Clare into the lead with a point only for Derry to quickly reply with a point from James Kielt. 0-05 to 0-05 at 29 minutes.

Two minutes later, Carlus McWilliams got his second point of the afternoon as he watched his free kick drop over the bar.

A valuable point as half time approached and two minutes of added time is announced.

The whistle is blown and Derry take a one point lead in at half time.
