THE Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Alderman Hilary McClintock, has welcomed news that the US packaging giant, Bemis Company, plans to expand its operations to create 95 new jobs in Derry.

Yesterday, Bemis Company, Inc., announced plans to establish its European Business Services Centre in Campsie, creating up to 95 jobs in Finance and IT positions by 2021.

Welcoming the announcement, she said it was very positive news for the city and region: “This is a fantastic boost for the city and region, and reaffirms Bernis Company’s confidence in Northern Ireland and in our local talent and skills base.

“This is a major investment in the region and a huge vote of confidence in our workforce.

“This announcement will not only provide much needed employment, it reaffirms the city and region’s position as a competitive, exciting and innovative place to invest and do business.

“I would also like to acknowledge the joint efforts of Invest NI and the Council in helping to secure these jobs.”

Des Gartland, Invest NI North West Regional Office Manager added: “Bemis Company, Inc., announced plans to establish its European Business Services Centre in Campsie, creating up to 95 jobs in Finance and IT positions by 2021, headquartered in Wisconsin, the global polymer-based packaging company is setting up this new Business Services Centre in Northern Ireland to support its European operations.

“The collaborative efforts of Invest NI and Derry and Strabane District Council successfully pitched the city as an attractive investment location.”

Marty Scaminaci, Bemis Company’s Vice President of Global Business Services, said the new centre in Derry was a “strategic investment” which he believes will “help drive efficiencies” within the business.

“We have successfully operated a manufacturing facility in Northern Ireland since 1996 and know it to be a great location to do business,” he said.

“The availability of skilled graduates in the area, engagement of local council representatives, and the support offered from Invest NI were all critical factors in our decision to locate this centre in Northern Ireland.”.
