THE new President of Derry Chamber of Commerce is George Fleming.

He is the chief executive officer of  Fleming Agri-Products, the agri-machinery maker based in Newbuildings.

Mr Fleming paid tribute to his predecessor Gavin Killeen.

He said: “I congratulate Gavin Killeen on having been a superb president.

“He is a tough act to follow.

“All Chamber presidents have their own priorities and themes.

“Gavin has focused on the need for us to raise our skills in order to meet the needs of the modern economy.

“My theme for my year in office will be on enterprise and the necessity for us to create an entrepreneurial economy in the North West.

“Without that, we will not create the jobs and wealth that our city and region so desperately need.”

Mr Killeen said it had been a “great privilege” to be president of “our historic Chamber.“

“Our Chamber continues to be the strongest voice for business in the North West and I thank our politicians for their willingness to listen to us.”

He added: “They are promising to deliver for our city and region – we all want the best for our people, as well as for our businesses.”
