new-brandywell-stadium-planMEMBERS of Derry City and Strabane District Council have been told that Council hopes to be in a position to announce the award of contract for the Brandywell Regeneration Project within the next two weeks.

Speaking at the Council’s Full Council meeting at the Guildhall on Thursday evening, Karen McFarland, Director of Health and Communities with Derry City and Strabane District Council, updated members on the project explaining that a provisional letter of intent had been issued to a preferred contractor.

She added that following the completion of the necessary standstill period and subject to no challenges arising within this period, the Council would be in a position to announce details of the award of contract and confirm the project commencement date.

Reiterating the importance of the project to Council, Ms McFarland said the Brandywell Redevelopment Project remained a key infrastructural development project for the city.

She said: “Derry City and Strabane District Council is fully committed to this significant redevelopment project.

“It is a significant investment of around £6 million that will improve the prospects and quality of life of citizens and have a positive impact on the regeneration of the Brandywell and wider area.”

She added that Council is continuing to engage with all stakeholders including Derry City FC, the greyhound racing fraternity, Derry and District and the Saturday Morning Leagues and residents.

Further updates on the project will be provided as and when critical activity, including the award of contract and the date of the contractor moving on site.
