Caoimhe-Archibald1SINN Féin MLA Caoimhe Archibald has encouraged community groups, communities, schools and voluntary organisations to apply for funding through the Challenge Fund.

The vice-chair of the of agriculture committee and East Derry MLA said:

“The Minister has announced that £400,000 from the plastic bag levy will be made available for local environmental projects through the Challenge Fund in the current financial year.

“I would encourage community groups, schools and voluntary organisations who are delivering projects which aim to improve the local environment and boost civic pride to apply for the funding.

“Through the Challenge Fund the proceeds of the carrier bag levy are reinvested in the environment, enabling local communities, schools and voluntary organisations to undertake small-scale projects which improve the environment and deliver environmental education.

“Funding from the Challenge Fund will be awarded via a competitive application process.

“More information and details of how to apply are available on https://www.daera-ni.gov.uk/articles/daera-niea-challenge-fund-201617.

“The scheme will close for applications at 12noon on Friday 18 November 2016.”
