THE Strabane area will be bustling with activity over the next week as council’s Halloween event programme kicks off from 20th October, bringing the weird and wonderful to the town and surrounding areas leading up to and after Halloween on Monday, October 31.
The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Alderman Hilary McClintock said, ‘I’d encourage everyone to get involved with the Halloween events planned for Strabane, Castlederg and Newtownstewart.
“There is a fun packed programme of events running throughout the week which is suitable for all ages.
‘I’d recommend that locals and visitors to the area check as much of the programme as possible.
“Events such as the traditional annual Apple Day – the Castlederg Apple Fair on Friday 28th October, now running for over 100 years are not to be missed!”
Liz Cunningham, Event Co-Ordinator at Derry City and Strabane District Council, who organised the events as part of the ‘Out of this World’ Halloween programme for the city and district added, ‘We’ve aimed to produce a varied programme to suit all ages and we’re pleased with how the programme has turned out.
‘Highlights will include; the annual Diwali Festival on 20th, 22nd and 29th of October in various locations throughout the area. A spooky panto, which will take over the Alley Theatre from 27th until 29th October, the Castlederg Apple Fair, Hollie on the Hill and a Halloween Pool Disco at Riversdale Leisure Centre on Friday 28th October.
Storytelling and workshops at the Strabane Library and Scarecrow Trails in Newtownstewart and Strabane throughout the week.
‘You do not want to miss the ‘Return of Saurus’ in Strabane town centre on Saturday 29th October, prepare to be wowed as the truly out of this world prehistoric river creatures make Strabane their feeding ground for the day, you really do not want to miss this!
“Then get ready for the Spooktacular Fireworks Show on Halloween night, Monday 31st October in Strabane Town Centre, where you can enjoy this year’s Halloween Celebrations in spooktacular fashion with fireworks over the Mourne River.’
