Kevin McHugh’s badly severed finger.

FORMER Derry City star star Kevin McHugh is recovering in hospital after a freak accident left him with a serious hand injury.

The Killea man, who now plays his football with Finn Harps, suffered the injury last night during a training session with some children.

McHugh is understood to have caught his wedding ring in a gate and it caused severe damage to his finger.

The star tweeted this shocking image of his damaged finger as he traveled to Letterkenny University Hospital for treatment.

It is understood he was rushed to Galway University Hospital to have surgery to save the finger.

mchugh-finger-2The player tweeted the picture with the caption: “Think that’s my season over…”

A Finn Harps statement read: “Best wishes to our club captain Kevin McHugh who will be on route to Galway Hospital by ambulance shortly to treat a very nasty injury following an accident today. #Thereisonlyonekevinmchugh.”
