MINDLESS VANDALS ATTACK DERRY’S PEACE FLAME IN GUILDHALL

peace-flame-1POLICE have launched an investigation after the ‘Peace Flame’ in Derry was damaged by vandals.close to Derry’s Guildhall has been damaged.

The criminal damage attack on the Peace Flame monument in the Foyle Street area close to the Guildhall.

The PSNI received a report on Wednesday afternoon that the glass had been cracked on the monument.

Officer are trying to establish when the attack took place.

A police spokesperson said: “I would appeal for anyone with any information about this incident to contact Strand Road Police Station on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 855 of 13/09/16.

“Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

The Peace Flame monument was unveiled in May 2013 and was designed by local architect Shane Birney.
