Car ends up on rooff in Co Derry after collision but driver walked away with just just cuts to face and hands

POLICE in Co Derry say the family of the driver of this car has given permission for it to use this in an effort to highlight road safety.

The PSNI say a one vehicle collision in Magherafelt was fortunate it did not end up a  fatality and the driver escaped with cuts.

“In the early hours on Friday morning, August 19,  officers from C Section arrived at the scene of this Road Traffic Collision outside Magherafelt.

“The car was on its roof and the driver was badly shaken and suffering from shock.

“A lorry driver had stopped and phoned police just as we arrived and was helping the driver.

“Our main priority is to help anyone who is hurt or injured. This driver somehow only suffered cuts to the facial area and hand.

“The memory and sounds of the collision may have a more lasting effect but family and friends are on hand to help.

“The injures were treated by the Northern Ireland Ambulance Serice who always play a vital role at an RTC.

“The driver was taken to hospital for checks just to make sure.

“The road was closed for a while until the car was recovered and it was safe for the road to re-opened.

“When you get behind the wheel of a car please be careful.

“It’s heart breaking for your family and friends to hear you’ve been in a collision (or worse) and it’s hard for the emergency services who deal with the immediate scene and the sights and sounds associated on a daily basis.

“We’ve kindly been given permission by the family involved in this collision to use this photograph.

“Have a think when you get behind the wheel and be safe.”
