Abandoned diazepam and maxitram tablets found in Ballymagroarty

THERE is concern today after a child is reported to have a taken a prescription drug in Derry.

The child is said to have found an abandoned batch of prescription drugs in Ballymagroarty last night.

The drugs included diazepam, used to treat anxiety disorders, and maxitram, prescribed as as a painkiller for nerve cells in the spinal cord and brain.

There has been ongoing anti-social behaviour in Ballymagroarty including drug dealing, burglaries, thefts and car crime.

Residents have set up the Ballymagroarty Community Empowerment group in an effort to stem the tide of the crime wave.

Today, BCE said: “These are the results of our walk about last night – packets of diazepam and maxitram tablets.

“We’re waiting to hear of a child finding one of these packets with tablets left in them and taking them.

“I dont think the people taking these in the street the damage there doing to themselves and the damage they could do to a child.”
