raymond-mccartney stakeknifeSINN Féin Foyle MLA Raymond McCartney has welcomed the announcement from Health Minister Michelle O’Neill that new drugs for rare conditions will be available for eligible patients in the North.

The Foyle MLA said: “I welcome today’s announcement from my party colleague and Health Minister Michelle O’Neill that new and innovative drugs for the treatment of rare diseases will be made available to eligible patients in the North.

“Minister O’Neill has approved these drugs to treat conditions such as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in children and that will make a huge difference to people’s lives.

“Everyone acknowledges there are financial pressures on the health system and that these drugs are expensive.

“I congratulate Minister O’Neill for engaging with the public and making these drugs available.”
