THE Derry and Strabane Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) met with the Justice Minister Claire Sugden yesterday to discuss the delivery of a number of key projects funded under the Assets Recovery Community Scheme (ARCS).
A total of £29,830 was secured by the PCSP from the Assets Recovery Community Scheme (ARCS) with awards made to the Playhouse to deliver a Safe Talk Film and to Men’s Action Network to deliver their Breaking the Cycle Initiative.
Representatives from both projects met with the Minister to discuss the development and delivery of their projects and PCSP statutory partners from Health, Education, Police and Probation Board also attended the Ministerial engagement.
Chairman of the PCSP, Councillor Gus Hastings, welcomed the visit from the Minister and praised the work of both groups in identifying innovative ways to divert young people from crime.
“I am delighted that the Justice Minister, Claire Sugden, MLA took time from her busy schedule to meet with the PCSP and its delivery partners,” he said.
“Both the Playhouse and Men’s Action Network advised the Minister on the delivery of their initiatives and the positive impact these programmes will have in reducing offending and diverting young adults from the criminal justice system.
“Our PCSP partners spoke to the Minister about the excellent collaborative work being delivered in the district. The Minister was fully engaged and supportive of the work of the PCSP and its partners and welcomed the delivery of the two initiatives supported through her Department.
“I was pleased with the open and frank discussion with the Minister in relation to policing and community safety issues and look forward to future engagements with her and her officials,” he concluded.
