SINN Féin Councillor Eric McGinley has expressed his outrage at the crime spree carried out by a gang of youths in Ballymagroarty.

He said residents have now been left to pick up the pieces and repair the damage caused by the rampaging teenagers.

The councillor explained: “Through the course of last Thursday night and Friday morning a gang of youths carried out a crime spree which involved vandalism, car thefts and break-ins.

“This criminal gang was made up of teenagers intent on creating as much havoc as possible.

“A number of residents are now faced with repairing damage and replacing stolen property.

“None of what took place can in any way be described as the harmless actions of young people carrying on and those responsible have to be caught and held accountable for their actions.

“This is first and foremost a policing issue and I will be pressing for a comprehensive follow up to this criminal behaviour.

“I have called previously for the PSNI to deploy the appropriate resources into Ballymagroarty and these incidents again highlight the need for such a response,” he added.
