FAKE ID POSTERPOLICE in Co Derry say cracking down on the use of fake identification documents to get into licensed premises.

AS a result, police and door staff will be stepping up checks on identification presented as authentic and legitimate.

It is a criminal offence to be caught in possession false identification documents and the maximum penalty is a £1,000 fine.

A PSNI spoksesperson said: “We are warning that there are consequences both for those who attempt to gain access and for those who permit others to user their documents.

“Some young adults are willingly giving their passports and driving licences to friends and family members, but are obviously unaware of the consequences, especially around passports.

“In the past two weeks we have seized approximately 30 forms of identification, a mixture of fake IDs, passports and driving licences.

“These will be returned to the authorising bodies.

“Those who have documents seized will have to contact the Passport Office or Driver and Vehicle Licencing to get their documents back.

“That could lead to delays, during which the documents would not be available for travelling or for establishing identity in financial transactions.

“Anyone who uses documents belonging to someone else runs the risk of being prosecuted.”
