Derry City and Finn Harps draw 2-2 this evening in SSE Airtricity Premier Division game at the Brandywell. PIC NORTHWEST NEWSPIX
IT looked like Finn Harps were going to hold onto their lead and do back to back doubles on Derry City.
But with 13 minutes left, Candystripes manager Kenny Shiles made an inspired substitution and sent on Josh Daniels for Keith Ward to liven up the midfield.
With six minutes to go Daniels – whose life was turned upside down when he tragically lost his mum and sister in the recent Buncrana pier tragedy – became a super sub hero when he scored to equalise the game.
And Candystripe fans went wild minutes later when Derry’s Prodigal Son Rory Gallageher put the Brandywell side ahead as the clocked ticked down to full time.
But the party was spoiled on 90 minutes when Sean Houston equalised for Finn Harps.
Honours even at the end but Derry City will be disappointed about throwing away a lead with just a few minutes left on the clock.
A win would have kept them in touch with Dundalk who are proving the team to catch and beat this season again.
