fire hose 1THE Fire and Rescue Service is recruiting for community firefighters in Co Derry.

The NIFRS has opened up recruitment for the part-time roles at Limavady and Coleraine.

Community firefighters play a critical role in protecting the local community and many fire stations depend on their contribution to ensure crews can respond to emergency calls.

The job advertisement said: “This is a worthwhile and rewarding role providing an opportunity to work as part of a team, receive excellent training and develop a wide range of skills and experience.”

Successful candidates must respond to an emergency call by attending the fire station within five minutes of being alerted; be available for 120 hours each week, across a range of time periods including day time, evenings and weekends; and meet the standard of physical fitness required to be successful in the role.

If you are already in employment you can still work as a community firefighter as long as your employer gives you consent to attend emergency calls.

If you believe you could meet the requirements, want more information and to meet your local firefighters there are a number of Recruitment Information Sessions.

The dates and locations are as follows:

Coleraine: April 5 or April 12 = 7.30pm to 9.30pm

Limavady: April 13 = 7.30pm to 9.30pm

The closing date for this post is Friday, April 22, at 3pm.
