Derry City manager Kenny Shiels hoping for fourth win in away game against Wexford Youths

DERRY City make the trip to Ferrycarrig Park to face Wexford Youths this evening (kick off 5 pm).

The Candystripes are looking for their fourth win on the bounce after an opening day defeat to away to Finn Harps.

Since then Kenny Shiels and his players have put that defeat behind them to secure three wins on the trot propelling them to third in the SSE Airtricity Premier League.

Wexford Youths have yet to win any of their first three games, scoring only goal and conceding six leaving them second from bottom in the league.

The Ferrycarrig Park side and Derry have met five times with City coming out on top in three of the games.

But in their last encounter at Ferrycarrig Park the home side secured an impressive 4-1 win to knock Derry out of the 2011 FAI Cup.

In their first ever encounter in 2008, Derry won the League Cup having beaten the then First Division Youths 6-1 in the final.

This time around boss Kenny Shiels is expecting a harder game.

“They have Johnny Bonner from Donegal and Adian Friel from Strabane in their ranks; Paul Murphy is a very good striker, Chris Kenny in midfield is good and Danny Furlong up front is a top striker.

“So they have got good pedigree, we know about them and we have got to be prepared for a battle.”

This evening’s game will be live on Drive 105.3 FM ‘Match Night Live’ from 4.55 pm.
