Stephen Dooley leave Derry for Cork City

DERRY City winger Stephen Dooley has signed for the club’s League of Ireland rivals Cork City.

Former Coleraine player Dooley, 24, joined Derry in June 2014 and scored seven goals in 43 appearances for the Brandywell club.

The highly-rated Dooley had a trial with English League Two club Wycombe Wanderers during his time at Derry.

Cork were runners-up in last season’s League of Ireland Premier Division and also beaten FAI Cup finalists.

The Leeside club were edged out by Stephen Kenny’s Dundalk in both competitions.

Derry City have also lost Patrick McEleney after the midfielder moved to Dundalk

But the club have signed Rory Patterson and Gareth McGlynn plus Scottish players Harry Monaghan and Jordan Allan.
