MASKED MAN FLEES SHOP EMPTY HANDED AFTER BOTCHED HOLD UP

Police crime scene picDETECTIVES in Co Derry are appealing for witnesses following an attempted robbery yesterday.

It happened at a shop in the Irish Green Street area of Limavady.

Police say that just before 8 am, officers received a report that a masked male entered the premises and threatened staff intimating he was carrying a firearm.

One quick thinking staff member raised the alarm and the man fled empty handed.

A man was arrested a short time later on suspicion of attempted robbery and conspiracy to rob.

He was interviewed and was later released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Detective Sergeant Cathy Thompson is appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information that could assist with the investigation.

They are asked to contact Detectives in Coleraine on the 101 non-emergency number.

Alternatively information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
