THEY couldn’t make the long journey to Ireland to say a tearful farewell to Gerry Brandley.

So to let them pay their respects, his family streamed live the 29-year-old’s Requiem Mass in Co Derry to his grieving pals in Perth, Australia.

Gerry and friend 24-year-old Joe ‘Hoss’ McDermott were killed last month in a freak building site accident.

As they stood on the pavement having a smoke break from the construction site, a large concrete slab fell from a crane and crushed them to death.

Today, hundreds of mourners braved the elements to attend the 11 am Mass at St Malachy’s chapel in Coleraine.

Fr Brendan Mulhall spoke of how one single moment in time had changed the lives of the Bradley family forever.

“In one single moment they found themselves caught up in the middle of a situation that you would not wish on anyone,” he said in his Homily.

“There’s always something immensely painful about the death of a young person.”

The body of Mr McDermott arrived at his family home in Omagh on Friday.

His funeral is to take place on Monday.
