Missing Galliagh pensioner John Concannon

VOLUNTEERS, family, friends and neighbours will this morning resume their foot search for missing John Concannon.

The 71-year-old has been now for almost three weeks after getting on the wrong bus at Lenamore Road in Derry.

Extensive searches have been carried out on both sides of the border for John, from Altcar Park in Galliagh, who suffers from dementia.

No official search was carried out on Friday to allow organisers to regroup and plot their next move.

His niece Rachel Concannon says: “An official search will be conducted from the Halfway House outside Burnfoot, starting at 11:30am this morning (Saturday, November 28).

“The plan is to search the road from Burnfoot to Inch, the R239 from Burnfoot in the direction of Muff.

“These are roads the authorities have indicated they would like us to focus our search.

“Anybody who wishes to help in the search is more than welcome and your efforts are very much appreciated.

“But you do so as volunteers so please conduct searches in a safe manner for your own safety, dress in appropriate clothing and footwear (warm clothing, hi-viz vest or jacket, gloves, hat, and wellie boots) and be aware you are out at your own risk.”
