THE Derry Strabane bid for European Youth Capital 2019 (EYC19) has gone ‘live’.

Hundreds of young people from the across the Derry City and Strabane District Council area called into the EYC19 ‘drop-in’ zones in Derry and Strabane where the Mayor Councillor Elisha McCallion was on hand to officially launch the EYC19 bid online.

Encouraging people to get behind the EYC19 bid, Clr McCallion said a successful EYC19 bid would put the Derry-Strabane area on the map as one of Europe’s most progressive and enlightened places for young people to live, work, study and play.

“Social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter and the Council’s new interactive EYC19 comment board for are great ways to get a conversation going about our EYC19 bid. People can like and share on Facebook, tweet or post comments on the EYC19 interactive comment board.”

Mayor McCallion, who was one of the first to post comments on the EYC19 comment board, said she was looking forward to reading what young people had to say about the proposed bid.

“I spoke to quite a few people in both Derry and Strabane during the launch and I was really pleased with very positive feedback and how enthusiastic the young people were about EYC19.

“While a lot of people commented on the friendliness of people and how good the Council is at organising big events like Hallowe’en, others were concerned about their career prospects and said there wasn’t enough for young people to do. The Council will take all these comments on board when we are putting together the bid. ”

Follow EYC19 on Facebook and Twitter #EYC19   #derrystrabane, post a comment on the interactive comment board http://eyc19derry-strabane.padlet.org/eyc19/mywall
