Cllr Tony Hassan welcomes £3 million investmen from SIF
SINN Fein Councillor Tony Hassan has welcomed a multi million pound investment in community facilities across Derry.
He said: “This announcement of funding from the Social Investment Fund for three projects in Derry is good news for the city, alongside approximately £1.5 million for the Brandywell, £1.2 million for Leafair Park and £600,000 for Pearse’s GAC have also been announced and a letter of offer has been sent to Derry City and Strabane District Council outlining the funding.
“This brings the total invested in Derry through the Social Investment Fund to £9 million to tackle deprivation and inequality.
“The Social Investment Fund was set up to deliver social change and I am confident that the people of the Brandywell, Galliagh and Top of the Hill will greatly benefit from this significant investment by providing better facilities, improving the local environment and increasing the health and well-being of those living and working in these areas.
“Ongoing consultation with the local community and user groups will also be an important part of this process.
“SIF funding in the region of £600k has also been secured for a play park at Ballyarnett Country Park and the Council will now produce a draft plan for the play park.
“Ballyarnett Country Park can provide a wide range of opportunities and act as a catalyst for the regeneration of the area.
“It offers a real opportunity to build the foundations for the next five years and put in place something the entire community can be proud of.”
