St Columb’s Park House is the new venue for PSNI recruitment day this weekend

POLICE have deployed extra resources at a replacement venue for its open day in Derry today.

Covert and overt units have been used to keep watch over St Columb’s Park House on the Limavady Road to thwart a dissident republican bomb attack.

Last Friday, a viable bomb was found in the grounds of the Waterfoort Hotel in the Waterside area where the PSNI was due to hold a meet-and-greet day for possible new recruits.

Hotel owner Garbhan O’Doherty cancelled the event following the attack say it was “health and safety reasons” of both staff and customers.

The PSNI has been determined to go ahead with the familiarisation day and not let dissidents win the day.

Dissident republican group Republican Network for Unity (RNU) – aligned to the terror group Oglaigh na hEireann (ONH) – are due to stage a protest at St Columb’s Park today.

Today’s event will have two information sessions during this event at 3.30pm and 4.30pm.

For further details on how to apply visit www.joinpsni.co.uk.

The closing date for applications is Friday 23rd October at 12noon.
