Sinn Fein MLA Raymond McCartney welcomes SIF funding for Derry projects

SINN Féin MLA Raymond McCartney has welcomed the the announcement of funding from the Social Investment Fund for three projects in Derry.

Mr McCartney said: “This announcement of funding from the Social Investment Fund for three projects in Derry is good news for the city.

“Alongside approximately £1.5 million for the Brandywell, £1.2 million for Leafair Park and £600,000 for Pearse’s GAC have also been announced.

“A letter of offer has been sent to Derry City and Strabane District Council outlining the funding.

“This is addition to the £3.3 million already announced for the Community Work Programme and the £2.8 million for play park facilities across the city by deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness.

“That brings the total invested in Derry through the Social Investment Fund to £9 million to tackle depravition and inequality.

“The funding for the Brandywell stadium is particularly welcome for the much needed redevelopment of the facility and the wider area.”
