DERRY born Everton midfielder Darron Gibson has been included in the Republic of Ireland’s provisional 40-man squad for their Euro 2016 big match qualifiers against Germany and Poland.
Martin O’Neill, a south Derry man, has picked the 27-year-old even though he has not played for his English Premiership side this season.
Gibson damaged a knee in a pre-season friendly against Real Betis in August.
O’Neill has also included three other Derry-born players in his provisional 40 man squad which will be paired back when they meet up on October 4.
They are James McClean (West Bromich Albion), Eunan O’Kane (Bournemouth) and Shane Duffy (Blackburn Rovers).
McClean is already ruled out of next month’s game against Germany in Dublin’s Aviva Stadium on October 8 because of suspension.
He will be back for the last game of the qualifiers against table toppers Poland on Sunday, October 11.
