Derry City manager Peter Hutton’s men go crashing out of FAI Cup

DERRY’S dreams of progressing to the semi-final of the FAI Irish Daily Mail Cup ended miserably in Cork this evening.

The Candystripes suffered a 3-0 defeat to Cork City at Turner’s Cross Stadium (kick-off 7.45 pm).

Peter Hutton’s men kept a clean sheet for the first 45 minutes and went in at half time 0-0.

For another 30 minutes in the second half they kept Rebel Army at bay.

But in the space of 12  minutes the wheels came of the Derry band wagon which had rolled into town.

Goals from Ross Gaynor on 75 minutes and Ross Buckley three minutes later gave the home side a 2-0 cushion as the clock ticked down to 90 minutes.

And three minutes before the final whistle John O’Flynn made it 3-0 breaking Derry’s hearts of reaching the last four.

Derry will need to pick themselves up ahead of their SSE Airtricity League clash against 3rd placed Shamrock Rovers on Friday (kick-off 7.45 pm) at the Brandywell.

Hutton’ men are now in a relegation dog fight with just 25 points from 27 games.
