DALLAT: LOYALIST AND REPUBLICAN VIOLENCE ARE EQUALLY INTOLERABLE

loyalist balaclavaEAST Derry SDLP MLA John Dallat has raised the issue of the continued activity of loyalist paramilitaries in his constituency.

After putting the issue to the Justice Minister in the Assembly, Mr Dallat said that loyalist violence must be condemned in equal measure to the murder of Kevin McGuigan that is currently destabilizing the Executive.

He said: “While we enter another crisis over the police acknowledgement that the Provisional IRA is still responsible for violence on our streets, we must all in equal terms condemn the continued activity of loyalist paramilitaries.

“Like the horrific public murder of Kevin McGuigan, the UVF and UDA have for years been administering a campaign of revenge and terror thinly disguised as perverted justice.

“The number of savage beatings and punishment shootings particularly in my own constituency and particularly against children is barbaric and totally unacceptable.

“We must all, with equal conviction and with no ambiguity, denounce violence in our society wherever it occurs and whoever is responsible.

“It must be clear that there can be no tolerance for the continued existence of these gangs, republican or loyalist.”
