Detectives at Strand Road appeal over paramilitary shooting in Ballymagroarty

DETECTIVES are investigating a violent dissident republican gun attack in Derry last night.

The probe was launched after a 30-year-old man has suffered a gunshot wound to the leg.

Police have described the shooting incident as a ‘paramilitary style’ attack.

The victim was shot in the Corrib Court area of Ballymagroarty around 10.25 pm.

He was taken to Altnagelvin Hospital where his condition is described as “stable”.

The shooting has been condemned by local politicians.

SDLP MLA Mark H Durkan tweeted this morning: “So called ‘punishment shooting’ in Ballymac last night.

“Violence solves nothing just creates more violence and more victims.”

Detectives at Strand Road police station have appealed for anyone with information about the shooting to contact them on the 101 non-emergency number.

Or alternatively information can be passed anonymously through the freephone Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
