First meeting of Sports Forum to be held at Foyle Arena

DERRY City and Strabane District Council is currently seeking representation from a wide range of sports clubs across the new Council area to be part of a new Sports Forum.

The Sports Forum aims to provide a platform for local sports clubs to discuss key issues that affect them at grass roots level, provide a key communication channel for the sporting community, and facilitate a collaborative working relationship between sports clubs and the Council.

The inaugural meeting of the group is scheduled to take place next month.

And local voluntary sports groups are encouraged to nominate a representative from their club to attend and potentially act as a representative for the sporting community in the new Council area.

Paul Tamati, Leisure and Sports Services Manager with Derry City and Strabane District Council, explained that the aim of the group is to provide an opportunity for clubs to discuss key issues that affect their clubs and their sport.

“It will be a working group offering all sports clubs and groups a forum where they can meet with other clubs to share views, seek advice and information, and learn about new projects or initiatives such as coach development, equipment costs, travel to major competitions and the organisation of sports events.”

The Council is encouraging all clubs to nominate a representative in advance of the Sports Forum AGM which will take place on Thursday 10th September 2015, Foyle Arena, at 7.15pm.

Nomination forms and further information is available on the Council’s website,www.derrycityandstrabanedistrict.com, via email [email protected] or by contacting the Council’s Sports Development Section on Tel 028 71 253253.

The closing date for nominations is 4pm on Friday 4th September.
