DOIRE GAA are today on the hunt for a new manager.
It follows Saturday night’s resignation of senior football manager Brian McIver who laid the blame for his decision at the feet of the referee.
McIver threw in the towel after his side’s six point defeat by Galway.
The third round qualifier match at Salthill ended 1-11 to 0-08 in Galway’s favour.
Angry McIver rounded on referee Brian Conor Lane’s handling of the game in which Derry were denied a penalty in the 61st minute when they were trailing Galway by four points.
He believed his should have been awarded the spot kick after Cailean O’Boyle was bundled over in the small square as he tried to reach an Eoin Bradley hand pass.
Galway then went up the field straight after and Danny Cummins scored a goal leaving the Oakleafers trailing by seven points.
McIver told BBC Sport NI after the game: “I’ve stepped down. Totally retired.
“I couldn’t live with that kind of a performance ever again from a referee on a football field. You are banging your head against a brick wall.”
“The penalty decision was a six-point turnaround. He’s a referee from Cork. He could have seen it in Cork.
“Everything in the GAA over the last 20 years has moved forward immensely except the standard of refereeing.”
