THE Fire Service say a fire which broke out at a Creggan bar this week was deliberate.

As a result, detectives at Strand Road PSNI station have now launched an arson investigation into the incident at the Telstar Bar.

The NIFRS said it responded to a report of a fire at the public bar at Central Drive in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Said a spokesman: “Fire crews from Northland, Crescent Link, Strabane and Limavady stations attended the incident.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hosereel jets, a main jet and a covering jet to extinguish the blaze in the roofspace of the building.

“Crews used ventilation fan to clear the smoke from the premises.

“The cause of the fire was deliberate.”

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to contact detectives on the 101 non-emergency number.
