THERE is shock this afternoon at the news that Derry City Striker Anthony Elding has left the club by mutual consent.
It comes less than 24 hours before the Candystripes make the trip to Drogheda in a crunch game in the SSE Airtricity Premier DivisIon.
Speaking to on the club’s derrycityfc.net website, manager Peter Hutton thanked the departing striker for his servies.
“To be fair to Anthony, he’s been a fantastic professional, but we’ve been thinking about it the past few weeks now and I think we’re going a different direction now.
“I think as well we need to bring though some of our youth as well. We’d like to thank him for his time here and his service to the club and wish him all the best for his future wherever it may lie.”
“I don’t think it worked out for him here, but it was no fault of Anthony’s, he was a consummate professional and worked extremely hard when he was here. Very good with the young players too and they’ll benefit from that as well, but as I say, we’re just going to go a different direction.”
“In an ideal world hopefully we’ll be able to bring some players in, but that’s an ongoing thing now so we’ll have to see how things go before the window opens.”
Derry City also echoed the manager’s words and thanked Anthony for his time at the Brandywell and thank him for “providing his experience, services, and professionalism to the club during his time here”.
