The Magee campus has been given a huge vote of confidence with the announcement of a new £11 Million teaching block.

The announcement was made by the Employment & Learning Minister Stephen Farry.

SDLP Foyle Westminster candidate Mark Durkan has welcomed today’s announcement for the Ulster University campus.

Mr Durkan said: “I welcome today’s announcement by the Employment & Learning Minister which gives the green light for this much-needed development.

“I, along with party colleagues, have been pressing the case over a number of years for both Treasury and Executive monies for the new teaching block – including raising it with Stephen Farry at a meeting last August in which he made a specific commitment to make a bid in upcoming monitoring rounds.

“I am therefore glad that the Minister has followed through on that commitment.

“However, today’s approval of £11m for the new teaching and learning block should not be confused with the wider case for expansion at Magee.

“We must continue to press the Minister, the Executive and the university to advance the funds needed to facilitate the wider expansion of our city campus – not least in terms of student numbers.”
