IT’S LONDON-DERRY (THAT’S A HURLING MATCH THIS WEEKEND!)

Derry’s Michael Warnock is missing through injury

DERRY’S hurling manager Tom McLean has warned his clash with London in the English capital this Sunday isn’t going to be easy.

“I keep reinforcing it. Every game in this division is as difficult as the next. Sunday will be no different,” he said.

With three points from the first two games giving McLean’s charges a satisfactory start to their 2015 league campaign, McLean is keen to point out that it is very much a squad effort.

“We’re still without a number of men from the squad,” he says. “Darrell McDermott still hasn’t fully recovered from his illness and we’re also minus Alan Grant for this weekend’s game. Alan is playing for Queen’s in the Ryan Cup finals so it’s a chance for other lads to step up.”

With Michael Warnock nursing what McLean describes as a ‘slight knock’ following Glen’s successful under-21 football campaign at Creggan, McLean is more concerned with the fitness of Lavey sharp-shooter, Paddy Henry.

“Paddy was out of action for the Westmeath game with a shoulder injury and it has been slow to heal,” he reveals. “He’s going for a scan on Monday so we should know better then the extent of the issue.”

With a team of Sean McGuckin, Kieran O’Connell and Tipperary’s Dinny Cahill alongside him, McLean is not likely to take the challenge of the exiles lightly.

“We need to be mentally prepared for this otherwise we will find ourselves in trouble. That’s the challenge before us and it’s one we’re all looking forward to.”

The Derry team to play London at Ruislip on Sunday (2pm) is as follows:

1 Barry Robinson / B Robinson / Na Magha
2 Seán McCullagh / S MacCullaich / Beannchar (capt)
3 Conor Quinn / C Ó Cuinn / Suaitreach
