SNOWBALL THUGS WARNED THEY COULD SERIOUSLY INJURE MOTORISTS AFTER SERIES OF ATTACKS

snow ballerPSNI officers say they will prosecute teenage snowball thugs endangering the lives of motorists in Derry.

Local councillors and MLAs have complained that gangs operating across Derry last night had overstepped the mark between light-hearted fun and posing a serious danger to stressed-put drivers.

There were reports of gangs throwing snowballs at cars struggling through ice-packed roads in many areas across the city including Galliagh, Creggan, Gobnascale and Rosemount.

The PNSI says such behaviour could have serious consequences.

Local MLA Pat Ramsey appealed to parents to warn children of the dangers they posed.

“This sort of weather for most is very challenging and for others it can be time for a bit of fun,” he said.

“However I received a high volume of worry, concern and anger from motorists across the City where they have been targeted by young people, pelting snowballs at the windscreens of cars, which is very dangerous, causing fear and anxiety.

“I would appeal to parents to urge their children to enjoy the snow, but to behave responsibly when out and about, as the big worry is that someone is going to be hurt.”

One eye-witness said a gang throwing snowballs at cars at Bligh’s Lane were in men in their 20s.

Pensioners house have also been attacked in a number of incidents, with motorists using the Buncrana Road angry and upset after being targeted there.
