The talented midfield player lit up the Airtricity Premier Division last year with an array of stunning efforts.

His performances haven’t gone unnoticed and that has prompted Championship side Brentford FC to take McEleney on trial.

St Patrick’s Athletic are also rumoured to be interested in taking McEleney to Richmond Park.

McEleney is under contract so Derry could command a fee from either Brentford or St Patrick’s Athletic.

The financial woes of the club have been well documented and with Michael Duffy expected to move to Celtic for a fee before the end of January the sales would be welcomed by the Derry City board.

The future of Rory Patterson remains unclear, he’s been transfer listed by the club but is still under contract and could remain at The Brandywell until his contract expires.
