The ongoing death threat to Derry City Council Community Safety Warden Scheme staff will not deter the city from being open for business, Mayor Cllr Brenda Stevenson has said.

Describing the threats as “intolerable” and having a “detrimental” impact on staff and their families, Cllr Stevenson said those reponsible would not be allowed ” to prevent us from going about our day to day business.”

She added: “We will continue to encourage people to come to Derry and enjoy all the events we have on offer.

“This is a hugely important time for the city, we are hosting the Guildhall Craft Fair this weekend with over 40 craft producers from all over Ireland taking part, we have our first ever Fashion Fest next week and the official start to our festive celebrations with the Big Switch On in Guildhall Square on Thursday night.

“Our message to the people responsible for issuing the threats is to withdraw them immediately and stop intimidating the people of this city. We are proud of our city and its people and we will not allow you to let us return to our dark past,” she added.
