DERRY GEARING UP FOR BUMPER CHRISTMAS FESTIVITIES

Derry will have Christmas all wrapped this year with an package of family-friendly activities and events guaranteed to get you in the festive spirit.

Highlight of the festive celebrations will be the switch on of the city’s Christmas illuminations which will take place in Guildhall Square at 7.00pm on Thursday next, 20 November.

Other highlights include a Christmas Village incorporating chalet-style markets at Ebrington and a “pop-up” Christmas cinema, ‘The Festive Film Factory,” which will screen favourite festive films.

The Legenderry on Ice will return to Ebrington from 28 November with an even bigger and better ice rink than last year.

A wide range of other popular attractions will include a festive funfair and bar in the famous Spiegeltent with live music and entertainment during the weekends leading up to Christmas.

Ahead of all that, Derry City Council is from today hosting the city’s three-day Craft Fair in the Guildhall.

Fashionistas will also be out in force attending Derry City Council’s inaugural Fashion Fest events from 20-23 November, with late night shopping until 10.00pm at the Foyleside and Richmond Centres from 1 December.

Speaking at the launch of the festive programme, Mayor of Derry, Cllr Brenda Stevenson said this year’s events would being taking  at venues right across the city making them accessible to all.

She added: “Derry has so much to offer in terms of both Christmas shopping and family fun, making it the idea destination for a legenDerry pre-Christmas trip.”
