Derry councillors will be going back to school next month as part of Local Democracy Week celebrations being held in the city.

As many children and young people as possible are being encouraged to take part in events being organised Derry City Council.

The event will see councillors  going back into the classroom when they visit their old schools to answer questions about the type of work they are doing in their local communities.

Young people will also get the chance to meet with the Mayor and discover some interesting facts about the Mayor’s role as first citizen of the city.

A Young Persons’ Question Time debate will take place in the Guildhall on Wednesday, 15 October, when elected representatives can expect a “good grilling” from their future constituents.

If interested in taking part in any of the Local Democracy Week events,  contact Karen Henderson, Member Services Officer at Derry City Council, telephone 02871 376527 or email [email protected].

The full programme is available at www.derrycity.gov.uk/localdemocracyweek.
