A&EaltnaelvinaeTwenty-two people were taken to Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry following a school bus crash in Co Tyrone this morning.

A further 26 were tranferred to the South West Acute Hospital in Enniskillen following the collision between the bus and a car in Drumquin.

The 48 people, most of them children, were taken to hospital as a precaution, the Ambulance Service has said.

The crash happened shortly before 8.30am on the Omagh Road in Drumquin.

Ambulance Service spokesman John McPoland said 48 people were treated at the scene for injuries, but none of these were serious.

Six, who had “slightly more than minor injuries,” included children who banged their heads off the bus windows, but he said no one went through any windows.

The bus was travelling from Castlederg to a secondary school in Omagh.

Three of the 48 patients were taken to hospital by ambulance service due to the nature of their injuries, which although not serious, required further assessment.

The children and the occupants of the car, accompanied by paramedics, were taken on two Translink buses to the South West Acute and Altnagelvin Hospitals.

It is understood both the bus and the car ended up on their sides in a field.

The Omagh Road has been closed between the Segully Road junction and Drumrawan Road junction.
