Police in Derry have said a “community engagement event” with “car enthusiasts” at Smyth’s car park in the city at the weekend “went really well.”

Local residents have complained about the noise levels – particularly at night – created by those using the Strand Road car park.

PSNI officers visited the area on Saturday night.

A police spokesperson said: “The community engagement event in Smyth’s car park went really well.

“It gave us a chance to network with both residents and car enthusiasts then subsequently highlight the ongoing issue of ASB in the area.

“It was encouraging to see that so many individuals from the car enthusiast community would be keen to both become part of an organised group and be more involved in supporting the local community/PSNI.

“We will start to look at ongoing options with our partners and hopefully be in touch with some potential options in the near future.”
