Striker Rory Patterson and influential midfielder Patrick McEleney look set to miss Derry City’s SSE Airtricity Pemier Division clash against defending champions St Patrick’s Athletic at Brandywell tonight (kick off 7.45pm).

Patterson, the league’s top goalscorer last season, is suffering from a back problem, and is due to undergo a scan today.

McEleney, who has scored in City’s last two games – the 3-0 win over Malahide in the FAI last Friday and the 4-0 league victory over Limerick on Monday, is suffering from what manager Peter Hutton described as a “viral problem.”

The 21-year-old missed training yesterday, having been sent home to prevent the virus spreading among the remainder the squad.

He is due to see a doctor today.

Hutton will also be withou Danny Ventre and Cliff Byrne.

However, “Pizza” will be hoping those brought in can deliver a performance to avenge the Candystripes heaviest defeat in domestic football this season, a 5-2 thumping by St Pat’s in May.

The sides drew 0-0 when they met at Brandywell in the league in March.
