Derry City suffered their second successive defeat when beaten one-nil at Brandywell tonight by SSE Airtricity Premier Division title contenders Cork City.

John O’Flynn scored the decisive goal in the 13th minute when he got on the end of a John O’Shea pass to finish superbly past Gerard Doherty.

It was Derry’s seventh league defeat at Brandywell this season ended any faint hopes Peter Hutton’s side had of finishing in the top four.

City don’t have long to wait to get the chance to get back to winning ways as they travel  to United Park on Monday night to take on Drogheda United.

They then have three home games – starting on Friday next with an FAI Cup clash with Malahide United followed by league games against St Patrick’s Athletic and Sligo Rovers.

Derry City: Gerard Doherty, Aaron Barry, Cliff Byrne, Dean Jarvis, Shaun Kelly, Stephen Dooley, Michael Duffy, Patrick McEleney, Barry McNamee, Danny Ventre (Ryan Curran 87), Philip Lowry.

Unused ubstitutes: Ciaran Gallagher, Nathan Boyle, Sean Houston, Shane McEleney, Mark Timlin, Joshua Tracey.
